EMDR Intensives
EMDR intensives are accelerated therapy sessions that allow clients to gain the same benefits of traditional 45-55 minute EMDR sessions but in significantly less time – think weeks as opposed to months of therapy. EMDR intensives last between 90 minutes – 120 minutes per session, allowing for double the processing in one session. A typical 90–120 minute session format may look like this:
10-15 minutes discussing your week’s events or pressing matters you’d like to discuss
55-75 minutes of EMDR focused work, with a 10 minute break in the middle of session
I adjust our EMDR focused work based on your how much you can emotionally handle based on your expressions, body language, and what you tell me
10-15 minutes of cool-down/meditation to allow you to return to your day
What clients may experience after completing EMDR intensives:
Clients may able to prepare themselves and their stuck parts for EMDR processing utilizing emotional freedom technique, parts work, and flash technique within 1-2 intensive session as opposed to 2-4 traditional sessions.
Clients may be able to process their traumatic memories utilizing EMDR within 1-2 session as opposed to 2-4 traditional sessions.
Having this dedicated time for processing avoids the emotional start and stop of traditional shorter sessions.
Processing for an extended period of time can be emotionally tiring. I recommend that on the day of EMDR intensive sessions, to take it easy for the rest of the day. You may be able to work on light projects or if you can fit in a nap, that would be beneficial.
